I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my blog. Most have been general inquiries about the website and what it is about. I knew we should have written the About Me page in third person!
When my blog turned two a couple of weeks ago, you may recall that I was trying to figure out what I could do to mark the milestone. Well, I thought hard and decided that defining this blog, and basically reintroducing myself here is the best way to celebrate the birth of this website.
First and foremost, it’s not really a blog, but for now, we would call it that…
If you are reading this in 2015 you probably know very little about me, and may be a little unclear on some things. Frankly, I’m still experimenting with this space, but I can tell you a few things like…
I will tell you why I started it
I started taking photography seriously in 2011 when I first moved to Paris. I got really interested in the idea of Photo-blogging, so I made a Tumblr when I got back to the US. I had a couple of blogs in between that, but I didn’t follow through with those because I realized I just wanted to share photos…my photos. I loved to just sit home and come up with edits for magazines and album covers using my photos. I truly enjoyed that–using photos to express an idea.
I love the idea of telling a story or better yet explaining a story through photos. I love documenting. I love creating and I immensely enjoyed making art.
When I created this website…
What I really wanted was a space. A space to create just about anything. A limitless space with no rules. I wanted a space where I could just think of anything and make it…from scratch. So I started playing with the idea of “hand making the website” I wanted everything to be original. So that, for example, if my website was a book, I would take the cover photo or create the cover art, design the text, write the words, and market the book. That’s what you see when you look at this website: I take all the photographs for this website. It’s a great way to challenge my creativity, but what it really is is an opportunity to discover myself and what I can achieve. My website became a learning experiment.
Me, Part 1
I come from a diverse background myself, I’ve experienced different cultures, and it has made me a lot of who I am today. I love learning about different cultures, people, things, I love to learn a little about everything and then I like to piece it all together—all my experiences, the places I’ve travelled to, the people I’ve met, the lessons I’ve learned, the things that inspire me—to create one big story.
Currently…
I work as a freelance photographer. I live in Maryland, but I’m itching to move somewhere new. I love all kinds of photography, but I’d say fashion and street photography are my favorites. I created this website to not only serve as a platform to share my work as a photographer, but also to become a creative space. My goal through all this is to teach myself and readers to find beauty in everything.
The Photographer, Part 2
I am mostly self-taught. I enjoy travel photography as much as I love street photography. Although going into photography for me started with a love for fashion, I’ve branched out since then into various kinds of photography, and I’m constantly experimenting with other kinds. At the moment, I can tell you I am a natural light photographer who enjoys overcast light more than she enjoys golden light.
Let me know if you would like to hear more about my photography equipment.
Considering all “parts“
What I’m doing here on this website is summing up all my experiences(me) into one big “picture.”(photo)
So I decided to…
Pick all my favorite things; fashion, design, art, beauty, travel, inspiration and then use my photography as a medium to understand and express them.
