“The best fashion show is definitely on the street”—Bill Cunningam
When Bill first photographed me in New York, I didn’t know who he was or why he did it. I found out a year later, when his work became the subject of my research paper and the inspiration behind a college street style documentary that I produced, that he had been photographing the New York social scene for decades!! His images of the fashion and cultural scene in New York were instrumental in chronicling the life and times of the people of New York for over 30 years. Bill Cunningham easily had one of the biggest influences in my fashion photography career – as he did what I do now, using photography to tell a story, a story about fashion and culture – and I will forever be grateful to not only have met and spoken with him, but to have shared a space with him at several fashion week shows including this last one when I returned the favor and photographed him in the snow at NYFW this year!!
