Beauty Review: Summer Friday jet lag mask review. Art Direction and photography by Armenyl

Even though it’s Monday morning and we are well into the fleeting days of summer, I wanted to talk to you about a product that promises to keep your skin as dewy and perfect as Summer Fridays.

I’m constantly experimenting with my skincare regimen, but if you’ve been paying attention, you may have noticed that I’m consistent about a minimalist approach. It comes from the idea that as a young adult I used very little on my face and was able to maintain clear skin through my teens. My skincare problems actually began when I started using the latest foamy or scrubby goo for acne when I, in fact, had no acne to begin with. I learned my lesson since then and have always tried to keep things on a need basis, including the pretty essential moisturizer.

After hearing it first from my dermatologist years ago, I finally decided to commit to using little to no moisturizer on my face this summer. As you can imagine, it was a pretty scaly mess to deal with at first. I tried a couple of things to get around it, and one of my favorite finds was this hydrating mask by Summer Fridays.

Apart from using clean ingredients in its formula, this mask is also said to be infused with various vitamins and antioxidants, but most especially to be great at combating dryness by hydrating and leaving a pretty dewy finish.

Initially, when I purchased this mask, I had a love-hate relationship with it because most of the time I felt like I didn’t see the wow difference that most of the beauty gurus raved about. I did, however, feel the hydrating aspect which is all I actually wanted. What I love about the mask is that you keep it on for a few minutes and then wipe it off—leaving a soft clean hydrated look.

I reached for it every time I didn’t get enough sleep: I would slather it under my eyes, leave it on while I have breakfast, and then wipe it off before I apply my makeup or sunscreen. This is where I was mostly unimpressed. I never quite saw a difference under the eyes when I used it. Although, it doesn’t mention being a dark circle eraser online every beauty guru that sold me on it seemed to love it for that purpose. I got frustrated with not seeing a difference with that and also with the steep price point compared to how much product you get, that I returned it.

But I quickly missed it for the quick fix it gave my skin when it looked dull, how fresh it made my skin look whenever I used it, and for being the perfect primer under my makeup! So I repurchased it! I told you it was a love-hate relationship. Now, I completely love it! Does that happen to anyone else? Where you hate a product at first and then give it another try and you can’t live without it?! I also have to add that my mom tried it, and was incredibly wowed by how it well it worked under her eyes. She had the same reaction as the beauty insiders that raved about the product. So perhaps when it comes to that, it’s just me.

How I use it:

I don’t like it much as an overnight mask because it gets sticky and I don’t see too much of a difference in the morning. But I love it to prep my skin for a flawless dewy finish under makeup up or alone for a soft youthful appearance. I leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and prefer to wipe it off with a warm face towel instead of tissues because I see more of a hydrating difference with a towel. It has a tingly minty feel, so you can feel it waking up your skin. From dull to revived!
