You don’t have the luxury of time shooting street style at Fashion Week. What you do have is about five seconds. Those five seconds include the attention span of the person you are photographing before they turn their head to the next photographer yelling their name. The same five seconds are for finding the perfect light, and composing your shot, and most importantly–that thing we all want in our portraits–making a connection. It’s no easy task, in fact, it’s nearly impossible because what you essentially get is a brief pause to say everything you want to say about your subject through your portrait. That’s why it is always magical when it does happen. I cherish moments like these when the right place and right time favors me. Something us street photographers wish we could always have.
