*Warning: complete geek post ahead*
Mortal Kombat Trilogy on Nintendo 64 was one of the first video games I played, and it’s probably the video game that made me a gamer (of some sort). Before that, I played a lot of MS-DOS games like Duke Nukem and Commander Keen. Xatax was also my favorite—solely based on the music. I remember using Kitana the first time I played Mortal Kombat trilogy, and with a dash of beginner’s luck and some determination I beat the line up of contenders which were all boys who had believed they were humoring me at first by allowing me to try out the game. I mastered all of Kitana’s moves. Except her Brutality combo. I could never move my fingers fast enough. Keeping up with the latest gaming news became one of my favorite pastimes and the subject of most of my conversations with my brothers and boy friends at school. I admit that I am not as crazy a fan as I was when I was younger—when I traded video games at school for my brothers and mastered the names of all the cars in Gran Turismo. But I can still tell you the wanted level cheat for Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City off the top my head. Also, the first thing I thought of when I heard of Banshee(the tv show) is a vehicle in GTA. And I still queue up in midnight release lines to pick up my favorites like Mortal Kombat X last month and an even longer line two years ago for GTA V.
I guess even though my obsession with video games has somewhat died out, there are still certain favorites (GTA, Mortal Kombat, and Soul Calibur) I can’t let down, and that I will gladly stand in a midnight release line for, including this one—the latest of my credit card confessions.
P.S & Dear Warner Bros., If I don’t see a Noob Saibot release in the near future, I might have to reconsider my love for Mortal Kombat… It’s that serious!
