“So your advice to me is that I can do everything?”
“Yes. My advice to you is that you can do anything.”
I can almost recite our exchange word for word. Partly because it is the last taste I have of it, and perhaps because my mind has taken those three minutes and stretched them into something infinite. It is strange how a moment can outlive its own making, how something said in passing can become a place you return to, long after the voice that said it has gone quiet. I find myself revisiting those few minutes, sometimes for the words, sometimes for the sound of your voice, and sometimes to push past what I already know and find new meaning. And then, for a little while, it feels as though the conversation never quite ended.
What is it that I truly want, if I could have it all? What would I dare to imagine if I could get past the doubt that so often clouds my mind, the kind that makes even the simplest desires difficult to say out loud? What would I reach for if I stopped measuring my dreams against what I currently know how to do? If I could only begin to imagine what is possible through the power of Christ at work within me, how much further would I let myself dream?
Today, as I stand at the beginning of another journey, your words meet me again.
You can do anything. Everything and be anything. You just have to try. Try, and try again.
So, here I am, trying again.
