Right now, Accra feels like one giant party!! The feeling of African pride is hard to ignore. The music, the countless parties, the shuffling of our feet to our cherished Afrobeats, the clenched fists we throw in the air as we stand in front of historic monuments, and in our vibrant print dresses and headwraps! It radiates in our faces that we couldn’t be more proud to be African, to be Ghanaian, at a time like this!
As we continue to celebrate the Year of Return, the days have been packed with long lists of events happening all over town and, as silly as it sounds, sometimes the biggest challenge of the day is trying to figure which one to attend!
Afrochella was at the very top of a long list of events that I was looking forward to attending this year! Yesterday, I not only got to experience this spectacular celebration of African culture and creativity but I also got to capture a bit for you to see.
Here are some of my favorite video and photo highlights from Afrochella 2019*:
*excluding the moment I almost passed out when I saw Miss Tina Lawson(Beyonce’s mom) herself joining us for the celebration.
