Afrochella 2019 Street Style

I’m running into 10 years of shooting Street Style since I started in Paris in March 2011, but nothing makes me more proud and as excited than being able to showcase the style in my own city!

Next year in March will mark 10 years of covering street style from New York to Paris. It has been an amazing journey so far, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out a decade of photographing street style than with the style of my own little country!

Ghana with its vibrant funky prints has always had its unique way of interpreting style. Last year, I shared the style stories of several people I interviewed on the streets of Accra and we dived into what fashion meant for them. There were some surprising revelations, and if you haven’t read that article please stop and check it out before you continue because it will make the perfect prologue to what I am sharing with you today! I learned, among many things, that the Ghanaian woman especially is the director of her style in a way that most western cultures aren’t. Every Ghanaian man or woman has at least one outfit in their closest in which they had some say in its conception.

That is why it was even more exciting to cover street style at a festival that celebrates our culture and creativity!
