Of all our beauty routines, it is safe to say sunscreen is one of the most important steps. I wear sunscreen even on cloudy days and sometimes indoors. Yet, for something that is greatly essential in fighting not only UV/UB rays that cause premature aging but also skin cancer, it sucks that there are very few and far between that work for my skin tone. Along the years, I have found a few amazing sunscreens that work well for me! They are both safe (without endocrine disruptors) and invisible on my skin! The newest to my sunscreen family is one I want to share with you today: REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30.
When I saw on the @RenSkincareUS Instagram page that they were releasing a new sunscreen, I quickly contacted the brand to ask to try it! I’ve spoken about this brand on here before! I loved their perfect canvas skincare so much, and I was excited about sunscreen with clean ingredients—even the tube is made from recycled plastic and the box is printed with vegetable ink!
REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30
The Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 is a mattifying broad-spectrum sunscreen formulated with naturally derived zinc oxide for UVA & UVB protection, passion fruit extract which protects against pollution and natural rice starch to give the skin a mattifying finish. It is also both silicone and oxybenzone-free!
Typically, when I hear zinc oxide, which is the ingredient you look for if you need excellent broad-spectrum protection, I panic because I know I might have that dreaded purplish white cast on my skin. The first time I tried this, I was a little nervous because although I loved all the healthy ingredients in the REN sunscreen, I’ve been down this road before and I know from past experience that healthy ingredients in sunscreen translate to heavy, pore clogging, ghost face for me.
The first time I used this sunscreen I did get a slight white cast on my face, but it faded away shortly after. Over the past few days, I’ve been trying it out in a couple of different ways and I finally figured out the best way to get a perfect application.
How I use it
I take a tiny pea size amount and apply it over well-moisturized skin. These two steps are important because this is where you can go wrong and get a mild cast on your face. A little goes a long way plus well-hydrated skin allows the products to glide on better and melt into the skin.
Lately, I’ve been just mixing it in with my moisturizer and applying it on my face and it works even better!
The mattifying finish is also perfect for people with oily/combination skin, and it feels incredibly soft to the touch. For best results, work it in small sections of the face & use smaller amounts.
